First Lady Trina’s story is one that could have been lifted from a Christian fairy tale. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1976 at Good Hope United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, Md., during a service in which her future husband (Pastor John K. Jenkins, Sr.) was the youth preacher.

A distinguished woman in her own right, First Lady Trina earned her bachelor of arts in sociology from the University of Maryland in 1982. She went on to receive an honorary doctorate of divinity from Truth Bible College in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2004.

Her knack for the spiritual development of women and families is evident in First Lady’s ministry, as well as her professional life. After completing the instructor training program offered by the Natural Family Planning Providers Association of Maryland and the District of Columbia, she worked for Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., as a certified natural family planning instructor.

First Lady Trina relishes her other role as the director of the Family Life Ministries Department at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. With the goal of “developing dynamic families,” she oversees more than 30 ministries related to men, women, and families. She also preaches and teaches at various venues such as churches, retreats, and conferences in the United States, as well as Africa.

The Lord continues to use this well-respected, godly woman to train other Christian women to reach their full spiritual potential through widely attended First Baptist retreats and conferences that draw women from near and far through the FBCG Grace Girls.
